The incumbent is assigned to Facilities Management Service (FMS), Safety Section, as an administrative and technical advisor to the Safety and Occupational Health Manager. As a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist, he/she is responsible for providing program pertinent technical advice and assistance. Incumbent must stay informed as to changes in applicable codes and regulations, keeping management informed of such changes. The incumbent plans, coordinates, and conducts safety training activities for the directorate and contractor staff in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and all other governing organizations. Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION FOR GS-09: EDUCATION: Possess Master's degree or successfully completed two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree, or an equivalent graduate degree or LL.B or J.D., with a major study in a safety or occupational health field (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. COMBINATION OF SPECILIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION FOR GS-09: Possess the equivalent combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above to meet total qualification requirements for the GS-09 position.
